Building on the work we did with Caper in 2012, Cultural & Creative Industries Exchange at the University of Leeds is working with CARBON Imagineering to run the second edition of Leeds Creative Labs this Summer and are now inviting applications from academics and technologists interested in participating.
Academics must be affiliated to the University of Leeds, as part of either, the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Performance, Visual Arts and Communications or Leeds University Business School. Technologists may be from a range of backgrounds, including but not limited to software development, graphic or product design, game design, producers. Preference will be given to technologists or teams of technologists living or working in the Leeds area.
The outcomes of the Lab can include tools, visualisations, games, websites or Internet-connected hardware.
We are matching five academics with five groups technologists for a short, intensive period of collaborative development. Technologists will be offered a bursary of £1,000 in exchange for their time and contribution to the project. Both academics and technologists can also apply as teams to broaden the expertise available to them.
Expressions of interest must be received by 23 May 2014.
A matchmaking event will take place at the University of Leeds on 19th June at 13:00 to 14:30, to put academics and technologists together.
Successful applicants will be selected based upon their experience of collaboration and their ability to create new and innovative work, their fit with their prospective technical or academic partner as well as their availability for the event on the 19th June.
Then, over 3-5 days in June and July 2014 (at times to suit), the successful teams will work together to create tools, visualisations, games, websites or Internet-connected hardware that explore the themes and findings of the academic research in new ways.
All prototypes will be made available to the general public once the Labs are finished. If you have any further queries, do contact us.
